a nice and roasty yet highly drinkable stout, that reminds me more of some porters i have had than the classic american stout, i think i also overheard them say the put a little coffee in here, which would make sense, as there is a great accent to the darker grain in here, bringing up some of the deepest elements, bitter, charred, and drying. lots to love in the flavor here, from that mild but warming coffee note, to perhaps a rye induced peppery element to the middle, a touch of caramel there too, and a fuller, wheaty body that does not diminish drinkability, i would think midnight wheat might be one of the six grains, but i cant call it for sure. smooth and mellow feeling, but bitter through the finish which i like, dry like an irish stout, and just as drinkable even though its stronger, even a trace of an old world ale yeast here, but that could be more a product of my imagination than anything, it does have a sort of well rounded rustic vibe though. overall a really solid beer, not overly complex for all the malts involved, but delicious and drinkable and another technically well done beer from ausable.
