they call this a lambic on their printed menu, but i think thats being generous, dont even think this is methode traditionnelle, but its cool tart wild beer anyway, done with black currants from their own property, and lots of them judging by the looks of this. deeply colored by the fruit, purple to almost ruby red in the glass, not much head but lots of big bubbles in it, kind of looks like a soda, not fully clear but definitely glowing. the nose is tangy and bacterial more than funky and bretty and wild all the way, it seems vinous, wood aged, and very fruit forward, notes of blueberries and blackberries along with the currants, strong rich red wine, light wood tannins, lemony acidity, light cheesy funk, almost yogurt-like in the same way as their berliner is, but there is also som obvious maturity to this. the flavor is mineral forward, twangy, citric, and pretty sharp, it has some fermenty weirdness but isnt bretty, its a little odd, but the fruit kind of bails it out. natural on the fruit, juicy, faintly sweet. i wanted a little more from this, the beer is mature to me but the brett part is underdeveloped, its sour more than anything, and its less carbonated than it should be, still compelling and with some cool terroir, but it hits just slightly amateurish overall, a shame because the fruit part of this is fantastic. still, cool to visit this place again, glad they are doing well, love their vibe here!
