pretty unique beer, a wood aged sour base some two years in oak, aged on cherry, strawberry, and rhubarb, as well as grape skins from a local vineyard, pretty cool mix of fruits, neat beer, very mature and well developed, tart but not excessively acidic, and vinous and fruity without being dominated by the fruit additions, this is still pretty fermentation forward to me, pleasant and summery, distinctive, rustic but not messy, quite good. neat to see these guys tackling beers this ambitious too, neat art on the label here. less color on the pour than anticipated, frothy headed and pretty clear though, lightly pink maybe but i open it in extremely low light, just expected it to look more tinted by the grapes especially. the nose and taste are about the same, plenty of early oak, bacterial lemony pucker, and a mix of summer fruits that kind of all hit at once for me, maybe more rhubarb than anything else with the tannic grape aspect and the overall acidity bringing that up in front of cherry or strawberry, which are fermented pretty much out it seems to me, some red florals and generic berry character lingering, more winey later, subtle plum and prune to it, even raisin, a little mid late sweetness but then drier with the sourness at the end, simple on the grain side it seems, yeasty in a unique way, sort of farmy to me with a little funk in the mix as well, and the time in oak has been good to it, even if it comes at the expense of a more robust fruit profile. good carbonation, a little weird to me overall, but a clever agricultural beer that hits quite distinctively. glad i picked this up when we visited the brewery, such a great space they have! this would be cool as a series where each fruit was showcased on its own...
