Berlin Brewing Co. "Pig Roast Smoked Porter"
$6/pint on tap at the brewery on 17 February 2018
Notes: Brown-black body with a thin highlight of mahogany brown at the base of the glass. Creamy tan colored head of foam. Better than average head retention and lacing. Limited smokiness in the aroma, but far stronger in the flavor without going overboard. I'm finding notes of charred bread, a touch of caramel, some fruit, smoked meats, and some roastiness. It's not exactly what some people would call "bacon beer" but there's some of that - I think the balance is perfect. Nor is it "ashtray-like". Very nicely done. Moderate bitterness. Median body. Smooth carbonation. Really nicely done. Sometimes smokiness will build on me by the end of the pint but that didn't happen here. Worth seeking out for fans of the style.
