For those of us who have decided to reside in nature, in the trees and among the elements, a hearty character is inherent. This porter balances multiple specialty malts to achieve its rich robust character.

Draft at brewery. Nice looking pour, dark brown , thin head, lots of lacing. Mild nutty, roasty aroma. Taste brings more bitterness, but some out of place sweet/ tangy flavor too. Kind of spoils it. Started out nice.

Stylistically, this stays fairly close to a dry English porter, with nice roasted grains, some hopped bitterness on the nose, and ashy, woodsmoked oxidation. Little sweetness to it, and a mildly bitter finish.

I had this beer on-tap in a pint glass at the brewery.

Appearance: rich dark brown hue with an attractive cap of creamy tan foam.

Smell: caramelly and a bit sweet with just a little roast. Not bad.

Taste: nutty, a little caramelly, and with just a hint of dry roastiness at the end. It works!

Mouthfeel: medium-light body with a decent carbonation and creaminess.

Overall: a perfectly serviceable porter.

Draft from the taproom... Nice standard dark walnut with pretty okay clarity... Good tannish head leaves nice lacing... Dark cocoa and hints of roastiness flash across the nose and the palate, but leave just as quickly.. There are some hints of yeasty/malty fruity remnants that add to the overall complexity, but for the whole glass I kept thinking that this was Polygamy Porter cut with a little tapwater. The ales so far all have a house flavor and are pretty watery... Not sure what is going on.

Still far and away the best beer Powderhaus is making at this point.

I will review this again at some point when I feel they are likely doing better.
