Grunt fill from Winco.Dark amber pour, head fades to to tiny ring. Barely there aroma, faint hints at some roast grains and molasses. Taste picks up a bit with some sweet malt , dries out a bit at the finish, kind of metallic. Also seems kind of watery. Room for improvement.

This beer has been stored in the fridge for six months or so. I keep passing by it for other beers to drink. So far, what I have tried from this brewery has been good, nothing stellar. The beer is served in a tulip glass around 44 degrees. The pour did create a frothy and creamy light tan one-fingered head with fair retention. As the dissipation happened, little lacing was left on the glass. The color charts around SRM 18, dark ruby brown with mahogany hues. Clarity is discovered when light is directed in it. The beer's appearance is standard for this style.
The aromas are chocolate, Maillard, coffee, dark roasty malts, toasted bread, earthiness, subtle floral esters, a slight brown sugar sweetness, and a touch of herbal.
I taste chocolate, coffee, toffee, dark roasty malts, toasty bread, earthiness, a hint of herbal, malty sweetness, molasses, a skosh of floral esters, and a touch of leather.
The mouthfeel is kinda chewy and a touch dry.
The body is medium, medium-low carbonation, and somewhat lasting finish.
This doppelbock has a firm foundation. I want more depth and characters. A solid beer I was longing for more.

a tasty and drinkable doppelbock here, thats a couple of good lagers in a row from these guys. its a little lighter than a lot of these are, less of that malty richness and umami character i often get in the style, but still full of flavor, perhaps a bit sweeter than i want it to be, but its well made and well refined. subtle toffee and almond and brown sugar in aroma and flavor, a nice long boiled concentrated grain profile, but its not heavy and its not all that dark, less toasted than some, mild even, but it leaves a little more room for the german lager yeast to show up in the flavor, and thats a cool element of this. some minerals and obvious european character to the yeast, nutty and baked maltiness, it comes together well. the body is medium and the residual sugar is high, but the bubbles are adequate and the flavor is nice enough that i dont mind it lingering a little bit, the alcohol is also very well hidden for its strength. these guys are getting more diverse with their beers, and i liked all i drank in our most recent visit, i think they are constantly improving their quality here.

Big ole snifter of this tonight at the brewpub... pours clear deep amber red with an off white head.. Dry toasty maltiness.. Finishes pretty fast..A little tannic on the finish. Lager yeast? Not sure.. The bones of a good doppelbock are there, but not nearly complex enough.
