Bottle on the RBSG bus tour. I provided this to show the out of towners why Powderhaus wasn’t included. Milky yellow pour, dull pour. Overly yeasty aroma tries to hard to replicate the Belgian style. Taste too is sweet and flowery in all the wrong places. Lots of bandaid notes. It was getting close but not close enough..

these guys always have at least one gnarly strong ale on tap when i am in, yesterday they had a number of them, and i was excited to see something belgian after really liking their barrel aged saison in the bottle. this is nowhere near as interesting or good, but its not bad beer. i wish for a little more from the yeast, not more character, just more intensity, i rarely say that from an american brewer making these styles, but its almost understated here, not at all a defining element, which to me is a miss for the style, light spiciness there and a generic fruity almost apple cider sort of ester to it as it warms, but i kind of have to look for it, which shouldnt be the case in one of these. the malt is pale but its heavy in here, not as delicate as the best of these, and it doesnt have all that much flavor either. i get subtle floral notes as this sits, a little honey sweetness, and a light bready baked thing, but it never quite gets to what i want out of the style. the technical aspects are fine, the carbonation is there and the alcohol is pretty well hidden, but this seems conservative and a little generic. i had higher hopes for this...

I had this beer on-tap in a tulip at the brewery.
Appearance: medium golden hue with perhaps the tiniest dash of haze. Head is a finger of attractive white foam.
Smell: lightly sweet and almost floral. It lacks the fruitiness I normally like in the style, but it's not bad.
Taste: sweet and very mildly fruity with a bit of alcohol heat at the end. Appropriately sweet, but I like a little more pear/apple character in my tripels.
Mouthfeel: medium body with a decent carbonation and creaminess.
Overall: a bit too bland and alcoholey for me, but still within style.
