like a big brother to their hot haus, which i believe is done with jalapenos, this is way hotter and more intense, done with habanero and maybe some other notoriously hot peppers, this is instantly a burner, way hotter than i generally enjoy, but there are a few cool features to it that make it better than most of what else is out there in this field. one thing is how natural the peppers smell and taste, its hot sure, but its really true to the peppers, the habanero specifically is there with sweet orange and mango flesh notes to it, both in aroma and flavor, really distinctive, and so few beers ever get that part down this well. another thing is how light the beer is overall, like there is almost no grain to this, and the alcohol is so low, its like fire water, no real balance from any other ingredient to distract from the pepper, and i think that helps it finish quicker than it otherwise would. the heat is lasting, but it deescalates relatively fast, and its new again on each sip, which is hard to do with peppers this hot. it doesnt totally wreck the palate, and after a few minutes, the last of it is gone. i keep thinking how good this would be in a bloody mary, or even just with some tomato juice in it in a red beer context, it has potential for sure, but i would never want a pint of this. hot enough to clear the sinuses, and i respect it more than i like it. neat to see these guys playing around with pepper beers though, i think they are way ahead of the game on this style, esoteric as it is...
