Appearance: Pours a clear amber color with a one finger head that fizzes a lot and fades away; not much lacing
Smell: Caramel and earthy, dried dark fruit tones
Taste: Caramel forward with fig and raisin flavors developing; very modest earthy bitterness joins in the finish
Mouthfeel: Medium to full body with lower carbonation as time passes
Overall: With a 7.5% ABV, I was expecting a lot more malt complexity than this beer delivered
Thanks, JohnGalt1, for the opportunity

I purchased this beer about a year ago; it has sat in my fridge since then. I poured into tulip glass; the temperature was 46 degrees. An Airy and creamy two-fingered light tan head with excellent retention. The slow dissipation left some lacing on the glass. The color charts around SRM 24, dark brown with ruby highlights. The beer has some clarity, revealing some carbonation bubble within. An excellent showing for the appearance of this beer.
I was hoping for bigger malt presents; however, I smell caramel, toffee, and medium roasted malts. Light smoke and touch of peat weave their way into the nose. Lastly, I detect herbal and a faint hint of leather.
When you do a Scottish, bring the malt profile to the forefront. I taste caramel, toffee, bread, herbal, light smoke, a hint of peat, earthiness, and just a tad of floral. The taste is unexciting; if you say Wee Heavy Scottish Ale, give it to me heavy.
The mouthfeel is somewhat coating. The body is medium, has medium carbonation, and has a lackluster finish.
Seriously disappointing; I want this style of beer with depth and complexity. I was hoping for something; from Powderhouse, considering they made a Gerkin Beer tasty.

A-looked like flat Pepsi, minimal head, no lacing
S-subtle coffee and roasted malts
T-same as the nose, with a little nuttiness. A little less sweet/bitter than the style norm
M-Light (+) for the style. Minimal carbonation
O-Meh

one of their more popular beers overall, finally getting into it. its a nice all season scotch ale because its not as sweet nor as heavy as so many of them, which allows for a little better drinkability, even in warm weather, despite it being as strong as it is. a nice deep amber to chestnut or nut brown color here, short just off white head from the tap at the brewery, some scrappy lace hanging on as it drinks down. notes of toasted and caramelized grain, honey, toffee, and wet tree bark, some earthy balance to the richer malts. like many of their other beers across a range of styles in my recent experience (hefe, triple, etc.) this really doesnt have much yeast character, which i think the best examples of the style do, and while it does have pretty good malt flavor depth, it seems almost simple and incomplete without a more prominent fermentation profile, a brewery wide observation for me of late. subtle almond and general nuttiness, light earthy maple, and just a touch of bittering hops to close. this is a good year round malt forward brew, but to me its missing a little something. im very curious to try the imperial version they do in bourbon barrels with vanilla! im sure that will bring the dynamic characteristics this one lacks a little bit...

Draft at Squawkyfest. Average scotch ale, borwn body with small, thin head. Normal peaty, earthy characters, taste just average. About what you’d expect for the style.
