been wanting to try this one for awhile, love a good coffee porter. lighter than expected, dark brown but definitely not black at all, fizzy tan head to it like a soda, peaking and popping bubbles continue the whole drink even after the head has died back, not hazy, but not super high shine either, mid level refinement it appears. the aroma is pretty bold on the coffee, dark roast, a little chocolate and bitter cocoa to it, not overdone, but sturdy, warming, wintery, and nice with the dark barley in here, simple it seems, but in a good way, nothing from the ferment, not english or anything, clean. the flavor is similar, more low end from the coffee than from the grain, and there isnt much middle malt sweetness, which is nice, drier than most then, nuances of baking chocolate, chicory bitterness, and just a bit of almost licorice character, soft spice. i like the freshness of the coffee, and how robust it is in this lighter porter than almost presents like a brown ale. maybe a little less body than it wants, a touch thin feeling, but good carbonation for the style and a pretty quick finish. a good pint beer, appreciate the lower alcohol. not epic from a quality standpoint, i think i was hoping for just a bit more overall, but solid, one of the better beers we had on our recent trip to the brewery...

A variant of their regular Hinterlander; this one is brewed with coffee, though the can does not offer any more details than that. 12oz can into a tumbler. Pours out clear caramel color and sits dark brown in the glass with a minor khaki head. Has the nose of a robust porter with a good dose of fresh-ground coffee; a bit woody and earthy. Taste follows the nose with that present earthy coffee that brings impressions of a being drunk out of a dusty mug (but in a good way). Mocha arrives with light notes of chocolate and some minor caramel. Toasty and fairly roasty. Easy drinking with a lighter body.
