Draft at PreFunk. Clear, dark brown pour, flat, dull. Woody, earthy aroma, hint of sweetness. Taste is nutty and dry, mild sweetness. On target for the style.

a fine bock, nice for spring, different than the schmidts and grins apparently, less weighty from what i remember, but pretty similar in some respects too. these guys do better than others with lagers, and the ferment is what makes this one for me, its not the most flavorful expression of german lager yeast, but its relatively clean as they go, tidy and drying, although i guess this never even starts all that sweet. its more nutty to me, toasted not caramelized, earthy with straw and crackery notes, more german on the malt side than the grain side to me, and not all that robust, subtle and more drinkable, weirdly good with spicy food too, which i dont often consider for bock types. its almost too light in terms of mouthfeel, and without great carbonation from the tap it runs a little thin, but maybe thats on purpose, keep it light for spring. nice mineral profile and water chemistry on this, simple beer really, but pretty well executed overall. they always do good work on the german styles, but this is not among their best beers in my opinion, just a little bit lacking. i think i liked the grins slightly better...

On-tap in Garden City, served in a can-shaped glass.

A: Burnt copper and clear with a small soapy off-white head.

S: Sweet, malty and clean. Bready, toasty, touch of earth and smoke. Very minor chocolate notes as it warms.

T: Follows the nose, fairly clean with an impression of fruity lager yeast and a clean finish. All bready malt in the middle with a touch of toastiness and chocolate, but honestly pretty light in flavors.

MF: Light body with minor bitterness and some dryness on the finish.

O: A decent local bock, light and bready.
