Hinter-Cherry Porter

a version of the hinterlander porter done with cherry, perhaps a draft only thing, one of the many many dark beers they had on tap when we visited last weekend. its less coffee forward but still with some roast and warming decadence, the cherry is strong in the nose, mostly on the back end in the taste, relatively natural but a bit sweet too, sort of hits like a cherry coke in the nose, a little tang to the fruit in the flavor, this is already on the lighter side without a huge roasted barley low end, and the fruit seems to enliven it even more, sort of brown ale-esque to me, and the fruit is obvious without being overdosed. to me this is best after it has sat a bit, the cherry picks up some chocolate notes in the malt, and this does a sort of sexy valentines day thing, a little dark cocoa behind the sweeter chocolate malt, still a hint of licorice, some coffee-like bitterness, and a very light body for a porter this flavorful. fine carbonation, good mix of flavors, a neat little tweak to this reliable base beer. good to see some innovation over here this time, not enough new stuff coming out of powderhaus recently, so this was a welcomed sight on their draft list...
