Holiday IPA is a festive Belgian-style IPA with bright notes of clementine and a hint of warm clove. Pouring a dark amber hue, it opens with a citrus-forward aroma that mingles with subtle spice. On the palate, crisp citrus zest and sweet malt are balanced by a gentle hop bitterness, while the clove adds a cozy complexity and warmth to the finish.

473 mL can from the LCBO, one of six brews in Bobcaygeon's Cottage Holiday Pack. There's no date on the can, but the box was packaged Oct 15 2024. Served barely chilled.

Foggy orange amber in colour, with a hard pour barely managing to kick up one finger of loose, bubbly, off white-head. Poor staying power, too - within a minute or so it has largely vanished, leaving behind a sudsy collar and little else of interest. Not impressive from a visual standpoint. Spicy aroma of clove, caramelized malts and toasted grains; hints of orange and herbal, minty hops are also discernible.

Unusual and a little rough around the edges for the style, but I like the gist of it. Toasted grains drizzled with a light honey sweetness accompany flavours of orange peel, tangerine and leafy, herbal hops. Clove marks a spicy conclusion, with leafy, grassy hops lingering into a slightly warming aftertaste. Medium in body, with low carbonation that barely registers on the tongue; the mouthfeel is smooth and watery, which makes it easier to drink quickly, but not necessarily more enjoyable to do so.

Final Grade: 3.55, earning a B grade. I have a couple of bones to pick with Bobcaygeon's Holiday IPA. First of all, for a Belgian-style beer it was visually disappointing, which immediately set the tone for the rest of the glass. It smells fine, and to be honest I don't dislike the flavour profile, either - it's just kinda flat and two-dimensional. Tie it all together with a limp mouthfeel and you've got the makings of one thoroughly mediocre Belgian IPA : sorry to say, but this holiday brew ain't for me. At least it's worthwhile sampler fodder, making for a nice change of pace from the other brews in this pack.
