Red IPA. Bold fruity hops combined with smooth caramel malts. Dry hopped w/ Cascade & Centennial.
Created by brewmaster Marty for his wife and out co-founder, Virginia. As our redheaded attorney, she is as complex and balanced as this classic American Red Ale. You don’t have to make an award-winning beer to show you care though, as every day is an opportunity. Seize, sip, and share… Made out of love!

Was surprised I hadn’t tried this on Untappd, let alone reviewed it on Beer Advocate. I really appreciate Second Chance’s beers. Nothing blows me away except Tabula Rasa, but all pretty solid. Had this the night before at a party and gave a can of it a 4.00 on Untappd, writing, “Outstanding for the style.” A little old than I’d like (I admit I didn’t check the can or the Feb. 13, 2019 canned on date), but still was tasty. Canned description read, “Created by brewmaster Marty for his wife and out cofounder, Virginia. As our redheaded attorney, she is as complex and balanced as this classic American Red Ale. Poured a reddish brown murky color with 2-to-3 fingers of khaki white frothy head. Could see a few bubble streams coming up along the sides of the glass. Good spotty lacing. Average retention. (Sight - 3.75)
Smelled nice amber notes in caramel, toffee, toasted malts, nuts, Wheat Thins and brown bread. Could smell some hops, but not sure which ones. More hops from the can with the addition of some soapy pine. (Smell - 4.25)
Tasted just about as good as the nose. Got caramel, toffee, toasty malts, Wheat Thins, brown bread, nuts, soapy pine and lingering rye spice. (Taste - 4.00)
Medium body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Long finish. (Feel - 4.25)
Even better than the night before. So good for the style. (Overall - 4.25)

Pint can:
Pours crimson red with a thin lasting head. Nice color. Some lacing sticks.
The smell is of caramel with subtle earthy, herbal hop notes.
The taste is of caramel. More hops than a standard red, but I wouldn't say hop-forward. Tropical notes in the finish.
Velvety smooth. Alcohol very well covered.
It is listed as IPA here, and I thought about putting a change in, but I'm comfortable with the style. It's on the border of a more balanced IPA and a hoppy red ale. Overall, nice malt and hop profile. A very nice drink.

On draught at the brewery – 16oz snifter

The pour is a bright and rosy amber colored body that looks quite the part of a red IPA. Completely opaque too as it has some viscosity on it. A nice even layer of khaki an suds forms over for a few lengthy moments while the actual stick power is weak with minimal lacing noted. Toasted biscuit and multigrain cracker with toffee-caramel malts up front. A bit of citrus zest and fruit juice with sticky green pine in tow. Has a nice earthiness about it and plenty of toasted malt character. Tastes much the same with profound biscuit and toffee malt notes. Hops are fresh and bright with orange citrus and evergreens. There is a restrained amount of actual bitterness to this and the alcohol is really well concealed. Nice crisp levels of carbonation lend to a bit of drying in the finish with some light resinous linger.
Overall this is a nicely balanced Amber but I was hoping for a bit more West Coast to come through.
