On draught at the brewery – 8oz snifter

The base Porter is already very robust with lots of rich roast character and a moderately full body that benefits to the overall experience. The additions here really seem to complement with the wonderful toasted coconut notes. Revealed in the pour is a deep darkened body that is brownish-black in color with some shiny glimmer to it. Has a thin layer of filmy mocha froth that develops with some subtle stay power and light sticky dots of lace noted. The nose is like liquid mounds bar. Brings forth a great roast malt character combined with toasted coconut and accentuated cocoa powder aromas. Lesser notes of roast coffee bean, vanilla, brown sugar/molasses, dark berry and toasted breads. A touch sweeter than its base counterpart. The flavor yields some scorched vanilla-sugar and marshmallow likeness adjoined to all the rich roast character. Nutty toasted chocolates with roast coffee accents and a dark fruit medley. Has a light earthy hop presence with just a touch of roast bitterness trailing in. Smooth and silky body with a semi-drying feel in the finish. Also recommended.

My second chance of having a Second Chance beer. Get it? The first one (Seize the IPA) I thought was just OK, but this one had me wanting it, mainly because of the description: A deep roasted malt porter, with cacao nibs, vanilla beans and toasted coconut. Decadent without being too sweet. Flavors are reminiscent of a mounds bar or german chocolate cake. Oh yeah!
Poured a dark brown, mahogany, murky color with three fingers of frothy, khaki head when I got it. No bubbles coming up from the bottom. Excellent spiderweb lacing. Excellent retention. (Sight - 4.25)
Smelled woody oaky notes, toasted chocolate, brown bread, coconut flakes, vanilla and roasted nuts. (Smell - 3.75)
Taste was better than the nose, getting toasted coconut, cocoa nibs, chocolate, woody malts, toasted chocolate, a touch of peppermint, smoky char notes and oaky toffee. (Taste - 4.00)
Medium-to-full body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Long, roasty finish. (Feel - 3.75)
Not as much coconut as I would have thought, but that’s not a bad things. Nice toasted porter with coconut and cocoa. Would have it again for sure. (Overall - 4.00)
