Canned 11/22/17

Appearance - Pours with a slight haze and bright, golden orange in color. Off-white, near finger width head that dissipates in fair time, revealing a thin, broken layer of suds, thickening up into a ring around the edge of the glass. A few small patches and a broken line or two make up the lacing.

Smell - Moderate citrus, caramel and coffee character on the aroma.

Taste - Follows the nose. Orange meets caramel with some roasted coffee notes on the back end. Quick to the finish, with lingering orange pith and roast in the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel - Light-to-medium in body with fair, tingly carbonation. Drinks easy enough with a slightly dry finish.

Overall - While I've had only a handful of coffee IPAs, the ones I've tried before have been pretty good; this ain't one of them. The flavor profile is pretty simple and not very interesting. So glad I put back the sixer and bought a single; their toasted porter is loads better.

16 oz can thanks to blipp’s FBW contest. Canned 1/13/17, about 3 and a half months ago. Aroma is coffee, chocolate, caramel, toffee, old hops and malt, garbage, caramel corn, apple. The offnotes disappear after a minute or so, leaving a nice smelling coffee beer. Pours hazy orange with a long-sustaining off-white head that laces a bit. Taste is alternating mocha sweet and hoppy bitter. Mouthfeel is creamy like a cappuccino with medium level carbonation. Pretty tasty. I’ve had a few coffee IPAs now and they always kind of fascinate me.

On tap at Second Chance Beer Company in San Diego, CA.

This one pours a medium dark amber color, with a small white head, and lots of lacing.

Smells like bitter and slightly fruity coffee, caramel malt, and very piney hops.

The coffee here is nice, it's fruity roasty and bitter, but the base beer itself doesn't seem all that special. It seems like your classic low grade West Coast IPA, too malty. There's just some regular old piney bitterness, and not much hop complexity.

This is light bodied, fairly crisp, with a good level of carbonation.

This is interesting, but doesn't quite work- the base beer needs to be better.
