Poured into a Gulden Draak tulip. Pours a medium reddish purple with a one finger light purple head. Oddly, once poured, the color is a medium to dark red with ruby tints. This seemed unlikely so I actually poured some back and forth between glasses; the spill drops and film in the emptied glasses were a koolaid purple, but not the full glass. Never seen anything like it. Aroma is red berries, green melon, mixed citrus, juniper and summer herbs. Flavor is mixed red berries, lemon citrus, kiwi, cranberry, summer herbs with some herbal bitterness in the finish. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. A fruit forward gruit. I'm guessing, because if its name, the fruit flavor is largely from passion fruit which has a puzzling mixed fruit character. When I tried a taster at the brewery I detected some mint notes, but was told there was no mint, although lemon balm was used, which explains the citrus notes and because it's in the mint family perhaps that taste fresh from the tap; I'm not getting much mint in this sample. Overall, a complex, very drinkable and pleasant gruit. I wish I had asked more questions about it but the beer speaks for itself in flavor. As with the braggot I reviewed the other day, this is another rare style from this interesting brewery. The color in pouring is fascinating.
