My second beer from Crooked Hammock.
Pours a dark brown color with a modest foamy tan head. Average retention, soon dissipating and leaving thin lacing.
The aroma opens up sweetly with caramel and fruity malt. Toasty dark bread and biscuity then becomes the main theme, with a hint of bright zesty hops.
Solid toasted malt flavor, amber malts evoking dark bread, nutty and biscuity. There is an underlying caramel, fruity and even dark chocolate like sweetness in the background. The finish is hoppy, with a mild to moderate bitterness that develops throughout, becoming stronger and bolder.
Very smooth, almost creamy, easy to drink. The carbonation is gentle.
Solid brown ale. I would have it again.

On tap at brewpub:
Pours a dark brown, but inspection shows a nice clarity. Head is a barely tan-leaning white, quite lasting with went lacing.
Nose is lightly nutty and whole grain toasty. Not strong, but the malt notes with the yeast do stick in the English brown realm easily.
Taste follows suit, the toastiness winning out in the flavor. Little more bitterness as I'm reviewing this than my first taster, clean but bitter. Feel is medium at most, the decently bold flavors skewing the impression towards heavier.
A nice bold brown that won't weigh you down, bit does have a fairly bold malt and equally balancing bitter note. Enjoyable!
