This Sour Red Ale is inspired by our favorite Flanders Red Ales of Belgium, and is blended from barrels aged 8, 18, and 26 months. We then refermented with dark sweet organic cherries and conditioned on Madagascar vanilla beans. This beer pours deep red with vibrant notes of sweet cherries, various dark fruits, and soft French oak tannins. Madagascar vanilla beans provide some sweetness to contrast with the acidic nature of this style, while contributing additional complexity and nuance. 7.5% ABV

750ml bottle, dated 01.22.2021, poured into a stemless wine glass. Enjoyed on 07.26.2025, reviewed from Tasting Journal.
The beer pours a bright amber color, ruby red and garnet hues, cloudy with a bone colored head, no retention and no lacing. The aroma is pleasant, tart cherry, earthy oak, light char on the wood, vanilla, candied hop, funky. The flavors are good, cherry, tart and sweet, earthy oak, vanilla, lots of funk, leather, tannins, tobacco, some citrus. The mouthfeel is good, coating, crisp, tart, nice medium body, dry bite at the finish.
Verdict: A nice Flanders Red. The cherry and vanilla work together nicely, good oak barrel character, pleasantly tart that balances with the sweet. Nicely done.

Cloudy garnet red with a pinkish white head. Huge aromas of cherry and vanilla are the dyad that lead the nose, oak supports. Tastes like an acidic version of what was promised: cherry and vanilla work great together with bright oak, dark fruit, and hints of balsamic lingering. Feel is more acidic for the style, sour, medium light bodied, and smooth.
