Rich malt with moderate hopping mostly in the boil. The pacific north west character is subdued - closer to English IPA.

Can: Poured a clear golden color ale with a large white foamy head with good retention and some light lacing. Aroma of sweet cereal notes with light floral notes is OK. Taste is a mix of sweet cereal notes with floral undertones is refreshing. Body is about average with good carbonation. Enjoyable but limited amount of complexity with a tad too much residual sugar.

Like many beer drinkers in North America, i expect, the "pale ale" description automatically makes me think of American hops and hop balances. This is not such a beer. This is clear from the nose. The aroma is more malty than hoppy, and while I understand that the hops are American, the aroma is quite grassy and English. The flavour is similar - malt forward, with a biscuity flavour, and grassy hop favours. I am looking for the citrusy flavours I expect from PNW hops but I don't get them. Slightly bitter finish. Strongly carbonated, a bit irritating. A decent brew, but not particularly notable about it. While unfair, I think it is hard to market something as a "pale ale" these days and have it so malt-forward.

Impressive brew from this new-ish brewery just west of Ottawa's city centre. Pours dark gold. Fresh hops smell. Perfect balance of hops and malts here. Leaves the palette refreshed, so very drinkable. Crawler from the Ottawa brewery, consumed same day.
