If you live in Newport, you don't frequent this brewery. Out of everything on tap, this was the best offered, which isn't saying much. As others have noted, light head if any, caramel aroma, light malts and subtle hops, easy going down but nothing interesting. Thankfully mine was free, I wouldn't recommend this beer. It isnt bad, it just isn't good either, unfortunately.

 

 

Pours a two-finger light fluffy yellow-tan head over a nearly clear oxidized copper color. Smells spicey hops like ginger and chili peppers. oLightly of caramel, oanges, sun-dried wood, and a hint of brettanomyces.

Tastes sour caramel, oranges, decent hop grassy hop bitter, iron and very clearly contaminated with brettanomyces. Bummer, this is a dumper. Medium-light in the mouth, sour from the brett, and md-heavy carbonation.

 

 

 

This is an ESB I go to recently try at a tasting. Had what you'd exepct just light caramel flavors, finishing hops, and British cask yeast with some fake fruits thrown in. Alright beer but does not do the style very good justic, imho. Yea, just sayin'...

Being at an American brewpub, I thought I'd get an Americanized version with too many hops. Instead, this is right on target of the English-styled ones. It looks like cloudy tea, a brownish orange fog with a nice head on top. There's some citrus and some hoppiness to it, but is mellow and balanced nicely by fruity esters and a dose of carmael. Good quaffing beer, and at $4 a pint is a good deal.

On-tap at the NBBC,

A: Pours a deep amber, with a full off-white head with nice lacing, good head retention, though the head is kind of soapy.

S: Caramel malt, kind of faint.

T: A real good tasting bitter. Deep toffee main flavour, meld with some grass and earth in the hop, with a bit of spicy character to create a brisk contrast.

M: Kind of thin for me, lightly creamy, medium-bodied.

D: A surprisingly tasty ale from NBBC after looking at the overall score for this beer, would definitely have again.

Caramel-gold color with traces of white foam for a head.

Aroma is subtle roasted caramel malt.

Caramel malt flavor. Sweet. Parching towards the end. Some agreeable, mild bitterness on aftertaste.

Not the equal of a classic ESB like Fuller's, but a good, sessionable choice.

Sampled yesterday with my girlfriend, poster said it was 6.5% alcohol, I believe this is one of their year round brews but I am not one hundred percent sure

A-Medium red color that is a little on the orange side, small 1/4 inch off white head that stuck around for about a minute, some retention, no lacing

S-Fruity aromas, hoppiness, various citrus scents including tangerines, lemons, oranges, tons of malt, and some booze

T-Starts off with a citric hop taste, then sweet and bready maltiness in the middle, finishes with some piney hops, as it warmed I started tasting a lot of citrus, also some berries, oranges were strong once the pinier hops settled down, somewhat balanced but still lacking something

M-Bitter and sweet mouthfeel, thin to medium body, watered down, needs more carbonation, taste does not last too long

D-Could drink a pint of this, be a good session beer if you can handle the sweetness in the taste, low enough in alcohol, not very smooth

Very picky when it comes to this style and it seems like I either love or hate them, did not like this one too much and would not order again or recommend it to anybody

I had this on tap at NBBC. The thin head dissipated fairly quickly; but the beer left light lacing all the way down. The color was a coppery brownish orange. The taste was bready malt with just enough hops to balance the flavor (maybe more hops than other ESBs I've had). This is a very sessionable brew--not too sweet, not too strong, not too anything, just a well balanced, good taste. The only problem is that you might get bored after a few of them--it’s a good beer if not a very exciting beer.

Slightly dark amber in color; came out with no noticeable head, and swirling /agitating didn't produce much, just a little white lace. Low carbonation. Aroma of slightly toasted caramel, and some slightly burnt/roasty notes that is hard to pin down.

Taste... thin. Caramel notes, no noticeable hop presence, and limited obvious malt sweetness. Slightly thick/viscous mouthfeel. Hops just barely come out on finish.

Overall: pretty boring, and not really worth another pint.

This ESB, sampled on the patio at this sprawling brewpub is Copper/Amber in color. A nice foamy white head dissipates rapidly, leaving behind a trace of lace. Malty and light hop aroma. Ample sweet caramel malt and mild Goldings hops. Hops peak through the raw malty flavor. Compare to a Geary’s Pale Ale.
