A good coffee stout. (Where's my cake?)
Looks like an above average AIS, tight tan head. Smells like a cup of coffee. Tastes like I have a wedge of bittersweet chocolate in my cheek while I'm drinking my coffee. Where is sumptuous cake made from wheat and butter cream? OK, the malt roasting convinces me there is chocolate involved. And Das Cake is pleasantly viscous in the mouth, even if it is not much like the fabled German Chocolate cake.
Bought my copy from Tavour. I had this in lieu of dessert tonight. But truth is: I still want my cake.
So instead of a baker review, I make my habitual brewer review. And I think Five Threads is kinda cool. The founder is heady and wants to innovate and bring the micro picture of brewing together with the macro picture of living. Southern California needs more of this. And for that, I give Five Threads some pretty good OA Hugs.... even though I didn't get cake tonight.

Opaque shimmering black with a tan head. Smell does have chocolate and coconut, but coffee is the runaway star with hints of gooey caramel. Taste also sees the coffee dominate with dark chocolate, caramel, vanilla, and coconut on the fringes, just doesn't come together like other examples of the GC cake stout I have had. Feel is light, sweet and very roasted. Not a bad beer by any means, just didn't capture the mind with the cake flavoring, instead a nice coffee stout with sweet adjuncts.

Pours black/opaque with a tan head that lasts surprisingly long for a 15% beer. Aroma is coconut and chocolate with some roast in the background. The coconut is very prominent in the flavor, but the roast and chocolate back it up pretty well. Impressed with how well the alcohol is hidden in this beer. Flawless interpretation of a liquid German chocolate cake.
