In celebration of their small batch experimental series, the brewers of Kentucky Ale enter the summer with the bright, tantalizing and succulent flavor of strawberry in its most ripe stage for ultimate taste.
Calling it their "Rickhouse Series", their Barrel Aged Strawberry Wheat makes for the perfect summer salad pairing as even its appearance is a summery ruddy, ruby color, hinging on crimson. A brief but creamy pinkish white foam crowns the snifter while a wheaten underbelly allows for a scent of fruit pastry and hard candy to shine. Sweet on the early palate, its malt and fruit melange satisfies the sweet tooth while promising refreshment.
Sweetness hold firm on the middle palate while its strawberry and wheat flavors settle on the tastebuds, eventually providing the roundness of strawberry shortcake, whipped cream included. A gradual fade of sweetness in finish brings the modest barrel influences of caramel, light oak, and just a hint of the brewery's signature taste - bourbon.
Finishing fruity and sweet once more, a slight drying comes way of light tannic oak that enforces a rose wine flavor that permeates the pillowy wheat and the tangy fruit. A long berry aftertaste hinges on strawberry but also trends peppery with redcurrant and raspberry.

Enjoyed from a growler via DEPS in Kentucky. This nice wheat ale pours a
murky reddish strawberry puree color with a quickly dissipating head of
light pale pink foam that settles and is then gone like the wind. Nose of
rich strawberries and sweet malts. Flavors follow the nose but are well done
with soft wheat and sweet strawberries awash in medium lightly prickly carbonation.
Nice crisp finish for such a sweet brew--not a lot of depth in flavors but good for the
style which is a better version of a shandy. Overall a nice foray into the fruity side
of life.
