This crimson liquid is beautiful. It's clean and just looks right. The thin tan head doesn't put up much of a fight to stick around, but manages to lace a little bit anyway.
With the lift of the glass, I'm welcoming wonderful caramel and raisin aromas that are complimented by warm cinnamon rolls complete with icing.
It is a delicious brew. A winter spiced like concoction with all the right dark fruits for them to coat. Dates, figs, raisins. The caramel represents itself in the background surprisingly, but it is uniquely wonderful, and ties the nutty and bready base seamlessly.
I'd call this balanced, but does favor the sweet side just a tad. It's a little thin with mild to medium carbonation. Despite its initial thin feeling, it does leave a sticky coating, so I wouldn't call this dry by any means.
Zoiglhaus impresses with this dopplebock. I might not put it up against the heavy weight champs from across the pond, but wouldn't mind having this often enough. If you're a fan of the style, go ahead and pick it up. Prost!
