Our house lager is based on the Bavarian Helles, which was created as a response to the rise of the Pilsner Beers in the 19th Century, being less bitter and a bit more malt-focused. A great Helles combines a clean, crisp malt background with a subtle—yet present—spicy hop flavor. It has an elegant simplicity and ultimate drinkability.

Cloudy darkish golden color, can barely see my fingers through the glass.
Subtle nose.
Sweeter and fruitier than typical German helles.
Feels a bit thick.
Not my favorite helles but a solid option.

This beer pours a darker golden color with a nice head that doesn't last long. The aroma is lager yeast and malt and medium to light bodied. Good, but much better than a base beer, more European/German taste, which Zoiglhaus is known for. DOB 10-19-2022 Rated 1-21-2025

For this review, I decided to keep it light and choose a Helles beer, the Zoigl-Hell. The last beer I enjoyed from Zoighaus was a Kolsch with a lighter body and a more pronounced malt sweetness. The Zoigl-Hell, the other hand, has a more balanced malt and hop profile. Using a Pilsner glass, I served the Zoigl-Hell at a precise 42 degrees, a temperature that enhances its flavor profile. The pour resulted in a frothy and creamy two-fingered white head with excellent retention, leaving chunks of lacing on the glass. The beer's color, pale straw with light golden hues, and its clear clarity, with a few carbonation bubbles floating to the top, make its appearance above average.
Nosing the glass, I smell the fragrant hops and light sweet corn notes. The hops are floral and herbal with light white pepper spiciness. The malt profile is lightly toasted malts, crackers, and a skosh of doughiness. The aromas are simple and clean with a light, yeasty phenol.
Surprisingly, the Zoigl-Hell beer boasts a more pronounced hop flavor than expected. The dominant tastes of pine, herbal, floral blossom, and light white pepper create an intriguing twist. On the other hand, the malt profile is more subtle, with notes of cracker, lightly toasted malts, and a hint of doughiness. The yeast contributes an earthy and medicinal phenolic note, adding a unique twist to the flavor profile. A subtle hint of mineral, reminiscent of lime, can also be detected.
The mouthfeel is carbonic and astringent with a crisp finish. The body is light and has high carbonation.
While expecting a light, crisp Helles, the Zoigl-Hell surprised me with its crispness and a noticeable hop bite. It slaked my thirst as the aggressive wind kicked up dirt clouds today. Although I had hoped for a less pronounced hop profile, considering this is a Helles, I found the beer quite enjoyable.

Sampling a cellar temp 12 oz can. Date stamp batch #1925 canned 12/16/2022.
The beer pours a bright clear golden color with several fine streams of carbonation rising to the surface. A fluffy bleached white head foams up 1.5 cm. This foam fades to a sturdy surface covering that sticks around throughout the sampling.
Aroma is some cracker malts and doughy notes. I get a little spicy hop character as well. Fairly mild overall nose.
First sip reveals a light body with smooth texture and very fine carbonation. Beer drinks super easy on physical traits.
Flavor is some cracker malts and also some biscuit too. flavor moves to a bit of spicy hop note and then the grain finishes and lingers a bit. never any hints of the low ABV. Pretty clean easy drinking beer. Glad to have tried this one!

Look: Slightly cloudy yellow with an explosive white head that builds and very quickly settles to a lid, leaving good lacing behind
Aroma: Pilsner malt, floral hops, and wafts of honey, soda crackers, and bread dough
Taste: Pilsner malt, flowers, and dough all jump out upon the initial sip and continue to develop as honey-dipped crackers slowly trickle in. Floral hops regain strength and hold strong through the finish along with pilsner malt
Mouthfeel: Light but fuller than I would guess, clean and crisp throughout, medium to medium-high carbonation, and a crisp finish with mild dryness
Overall: This is tasty stuff. I really dig these folks’ Pilsner and it’d been years since I’d had their Helles so was pumped to find sixers at a local spot. Really good and authentic tasting though my only knock is that I’d prefer it to be even lighter feeling than it is – it’s solid no doubt but any more body and to me, it would have the body of a blonde ale. Bright polished gold, bubbles streaming, bone white foam, rediculous retention and lacing.

Honey, grain, and grass in both aroma and flavor. Spot one.

Here's where I'm list. This thing is almost egg drop soup thickness. Beyond creamy, almost gag worthy. Having said that, getting past it's texture, the beer is well balanced.

This could be phenomenal if it weren't for the feel. I was hoping I might have had and "off" bottle, but two more later reveals that being unlikely.

Prost.

A pretty, clean and brilliant lager, pour is light head with modest lacing. The full - range aroma of malts, hops and yeast comes up and stays with you. One sip and you're magically back in Bavaria - a very Euro feel to it. A solid malt presence, with an almost pepper sharpness in a good way, no holding back. A nice hop finish and clean aftertaste. We're impressed as to how well the team brings these German stalwarts to life.

Growler from Market of Choice.

A clear light gold with a dense, white head with decent retention and lacing, this looks good. The nose is soft, bready with a nice Munich malt note. A little sweeter than most, with some orange blossom honey present. Very clean. The palate opens with a soft bitterness, mildly earthy with a little mint and a soft and fresh Munich malt character. A little sweet on the mid-palate (think watered down simple syrup) before a creamy finish that has a lingering bread note. Medium-light in body, this beer is solid.
