Schwarzbiers are dark, but without the stout or porter flavor the color would imply. A clean, light malt sweetness comes from the Pilsner and Munich malts, and a gentle roast note form the Carafa II and moderate bitterness and hop flavor. A Willamette Week pick for 2015’s top 10 beers of the year!

Look: Jet black with a beige head to 1-finger, receding to a minimal one leaving good lacing behind
Aroma: Light roast, bready, light honey-like sweetness, grassy and herbal hops
Taste: Clean, crisp, biscuit-roasty meld – almost coffee-like, hops in the background but present. Super crisp/clean finish and zero alcohol detectable
Mouthfeel: Light, good carbonation but not overdone. Leaves a slight aftertaste but quickly gone, beckoning another sip
Overall: Awesome stuff. I haven’t had these folks’ Schwarzbier but dig their other German style offerings and this one doesn’t disappoint. If Schwarzbiers (or even Dunkels) are your thing, this one is worth a try/buy

Rich dark brown ale, tight head from an aggressive pour. Bready aroma. Plenty of taste with this one: toasted brown bread, light toffee notes, just a dash of hops. Light on the mouthfeel with mild carbonation. Hard to find much wrong with it. Very sessionable at 4.9%. We'd have this with a bratwurst and warm German potatoe salad.

Poured into my shaker pint glass..this is a darkish brown porter colour with an extravagant light tan head..
Aroma is of toasted malts and lactose?
Taste similar but with milk chocolate aspects that are pleasing. A tiny bit of ash in the end.
Nice smooth level mouth feel.
I liked this beer..its very approachable but for me it isnt a trad Schwarzbier. Its a great American dark lager though
