Pumpkin to Talk About Pumpkin Porter

Poured from a crowler into an Elysian pumpkin snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing nearly opaque in the glass with a thin, fizzy khaki head that dissipates to nothing with a single row of bubbles around the glass. Aroma of dark toasted malt, faint cocoa and cinnamon; muted. Flavor is dark toasted malt with light char, cinnamon, coffee, cocoa and a hint of pumpkin a mild ginger and other pie spices. Lightly charry, coffee and cinnamon finish. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess and sharp carbonation. A light bodied American style porter with pumpkin pie spices. Not really getting much pumpkin nor any maple syrup flavors, although both are listed as being used. Flavor wise, this fits the "pumpkin pie style" ales rather than ales with real pumpkin/squash character. The spicing is moderate and supported well enough by the malt, but overall rather light bodied as a porter so the mild spicing is appropriate. A satisfactory porter, but needs more squash for a pumpkin beer.
