Modern Times - North Park Flavordome

Great location in North Park with a great selection of quality beers with a diverse list of styles. One of the better spots in SD to get a beer. Industrial, modern space with some cool bartenders.

This of all the my Modern Times locations is my least favorite. This is great for the party scene with a real limited tap list. It's got a weird humidity and stench inside. Yeah rarely ever go here compared to lomaland or far west.

Not to be confused with the Point Loma brewery, the North Park Flavordome is a storefront operation that has a hipster vibe; it is of moderate size, there is some upholstered furniture, some communal tables outside, a number of tables and high tops with a rather small L-shaped bar, where you can slake your thirst with 20 taps of MT goodness. They offer three serving sizes and several tasty IPAs. Let me be honest, I really love this brewery. They serve no food, but there is a burger place next door. Look up and check out the lamp shades hanging from the ceiling. Why? Don't know.

You can take the No. 2 bus from downtown should you decide on a North Park pub crawl.

 

Visited with my wife on a recent trip to San Diego and Los Angeles.

Tried the following:
Modern Times Fortunate Islands (draft)
Modern Times Blazing World (draft)

Both were drinking great - very bright and fresh. Tap selection was stellar. Service was friendly as the bartender engaged us for a bit and we had a nice chat with one of the patrons. Welcoming, barebones taproom atmosphere. Our overall experience was good, and we would likely come back.

Glad I had a chance to check out this spot. Great vibe and place to chill and have a few brews! Customer service was on point and of course the selection is fantastic. Great local spot!

 

Too much choice and the staff wouldn't let us even look at it. Sorry we were foreigners and we didn't know your brewery that well so we needed more time to chose. I ended up picking a beer that I didn't like and I wish I wasn't rushed that much.

 

went to this place twice while I was vacationing in North Park, SD.
Vibe was super chill. could just sit on the patio and have a couple of beers.
Beer was great.
Service was a little sketch/hipster/too cool for school at times.
Overall cool little tap room.

Small tasting room with service bar on right side and tables both inside and out, as well as counter seating along the street side wall. Lively atmosphere. Special event going on with limited, but exceptional tap list. The 3 beers I had were delicious. Friendly service. And a great ramen shop next door.

This Modern Times taproom is located in the North Park neighborhood near many other beers options.

It's not a large location, but there are plenty of tables and seating area both inside and in the patio. The server was super friendly and welcoming. I purchased and enjoyed some tasters tonight.

They had a bunch of upside down lap shades on the room. Unique. Cool location. Great place to enjoy a pint.

A smaller tasting room, but very good service and lots of local only can releases. Plus a selection of their coffee, the sever giving us the last bourbon aged. Very good stop. Higher quality than just picking up bottles up NE.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Made the mistake of visiting this location instead of the main brewery location based on beers that the web site said they had but were long sold out of (please update your web site more frequently!) Stayed for one pint since I was already there and basically had a bunch of pale ales and the coffee stout to choose from. Left and walked down the street to Toronado.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Big disappointment to start my San Diego visit. Fortunately it was all uphill after this low standard.

Big problem was the service. Tattooed hipster lady had an unfriendly attitude and seemed disinterested in talking about the beers or even serving me after I politely ordered and asked a few questions. All of this while the space was pretty damn empty.

I got some tasters in the least attractive of glassware and it turned out the brews were all highly underwhelming. The selection was IPA-heavy and didn't offer much variety.

Seriously, the highlight of the visit was the cold brew coffee although when I asked about this and thought about buying some, the server again showed zero friendliness. Then the coffee prices scared me away.

This was the highlight of my recent brief beer-cation to San Diego. Bright & contemporary space. Very chill, friendly & unpretentious vibe. The tenders were fun, knowledgeable & helpful. Great beers all around, the sample platter was real affordable with 7 0z. pours. The Neverwhere Brett IPA was my favorite beer tasted on a 5 day Cali adventure, super unique & drinkable. They have take home beer for sale on site along with merch. I was super surprised & entertained by diverse music selection as well. I can't wait to return.

 

Checked out during my 2015 San Diego beer safari. Son had recommended MT and was very glad we stopped. Flavordome was medium small but seating was laid out to optimize space for crowd but still plenty of breathing room. Very tasteful and attractive décor and lay out. Really liked the people. Service was super friendly and very helpful describing their beers. Beers were excellent, and crossed over a solid variety of styles. All very well made and top notch on tap. Had a nitro so they could play with their beers and offer another level of variety. Had a number of their beers bottled( including some not on tap) in a large cooler, and merchandise as well. So after a great stay you could take home a couple of bottles and some swag as well. Pretty close to something for everyone. Son likes original site as well, and looks like we'll need to check 2 MTs next visit.
