Thanks hophound!
Pours a deep mahogany. The khaki head that rises is glorious. Fluffy, nearly 3 fingers high, dense, and lush with chocolate notes. Slowly recedes, leaving a consistent ring.
Nose begins with a nice blend of chocolate malts and mild roast.
The flavor is more subdued. Chocolate notes are light, not sweet, and there is a round coffee roast note that is holding it all together. More subtle notes of leather, tobacco, and earthy prune are also present. But the more you sip this one, the chocolate notes all but disappear.
Mouthfeel is spot on for style. Mild carbonation, gentle sweetness is tapered by an understated earthy bitterness in the finish.
Overall, this is quite nice for a 8.9% Impy Stout. I just wonder how much chocolate other people are picking up, or expecting to, due to the name.
