The Bold Mariner Brewing Co. "Scurvy Dog Saison"
on tap at the brewery on 18 June 2017
$6 / goblet
Notes: Listed at 6.2% ABV with 30 IBUs. Hazy golden body beneath a short bright white head of foam that drops, leaving behind spotty lacing. The aroma offers spiciness (with black pepper and other Belgian-yeast spiciness, and most likely, some spices added to the kettle as well), fruitiness, grainy maltiness, and Belgian yeast phenols (clove, plastic). The flavor follows with sweetish but not candyish malt, more fruit (apple, pear, apricot), and a stiff bitterness. It finishes with black pepper... or is it white pepper?... and some grassy hops. It's complex but it's not bold and brash, and actually rather drinkable in that sense. Everything's there but it doesn't scratch at you or grab you by the throat like some over-the-top American versions can. Really nicely done. Well balanced, well rounded, and nicely polished.

Poured an orange body with two-finger frothy head with an aroma that is basically a bit of orange like acidic citrus and candi sugar w/ some yeast. Smooth beer at times with the yeast helping out but it has a cutting acidity/hop bite that leaves it more bitter than sweet and I don't really get any funk or yeast at all.
