this is a cool little hoppy session beer that has a big earthy rye malt profile to it. i thought all of the beer in here was interesting and cool, and this one exemplifies that pretty well. i believe its done with some new york state ingredients, which turns out, are pretty awesome. i think several of the beers we had in here employ locally produced grain and hops, very cool. this one is lightly hazy, a little opaque, and has just a short layer of bubbles on the top from the tap. smells and tastes like dusty spicy and earthy, the rye more obvious than any other element here, but there is a bright hop complexion too that is citrus forward and balances the rather intense rye really well, fresh orange and grapefruit are there for me, but in a way, it seems just for balance, same with the finishing bitterness, its all in service of the grain, which is a simple pale rye, but its beautiful in a lighter brew like this, and drives the flavor in a cool and uncommon way, seems fresher than most, less peppery and more earthen, timeless almost, gives the beer a farmy rustic appeal even though its so well refined. better carbonation than it looks like it will have, and a cleaner finish, albeit a very flavorful one. a neat mix of hops and grains in a real drinkable beer here, surprisingly interesting and very well made. i was stoked on the beers in here, a level of attention to detail that really turned me on!
