Notes via stream of consciousness: I haven't been to Strong Rope in so long I forget they were there. Anyway, seeing as how this is an English-style bitter I made sure to pull this out of the fridge to warm up a bit, and I used an Imperial nonic glass. It's a hazy light chesnut brown in color beneath an inch and a quarter of rocky off-white foam. The aroma is quite complex with notes of grain, biscuit, toasty bread, dried dark fruit, dried leaves, and dusty earth. The first sip reveals a brilliant toffee note, golden caramel, some darker reddish caramel, nuts, golden raisin, a little bit of dark raisin, honey, orange marmalade, some leafy and tea-like notes, and a soft earthiness. A median bitterness balances it perfectly and it finishes mainly dry with some tea and earthiness lingering. In the mouth it's light bodied on the higher end, and gently crisp with a fine-bubbled carbonation. The head has dropped to a thin surface covering but it's pretty solid. I can see where it's thinner but I don't actually see any areas of just liquid. With that said, the lacing at the outset was quite nice with some thin but rings of lace circling the glass. I've still got a half a pint left at this point and I'm going to enjoy it! Nicely done.

Pours a partly cloudy caramel amber color. A modest head retains as a thin layer of film.
The aroma is fruity and floral with notes of woodsy and earthy hops. Aromas of honey, buttered toast and biscuity malt.
Moderately sweet with notes of toasted and biscuity malts, caramel, honey and fruity esters. Good malts to hops balance with a smooth yet assertive earthy bitterness. Flavors of woodsy and grassy hops as well as notes of bright citrus fruit. The finish is dry with a lingering bitterness.
Medium bodied with a smooth, nearly slick mouthfeel. The palate is dry overall. The carbonation is moderate.
A very good example of an English Bitter. Balanced, smooth and very easy to drink.
