42 North Brewing Company

In Buffalo on the ‘let’s go see Big Dog before he wises up and relocates back out west’ tour (update: Big Dog has since wised up and relocated back out west). Drove in from Rochesta’ this morning, got all wecked up, and then wandered some further up Main. Turned left at the Pot Pie place and parked as one does. It’s a pretty expansive place, it is. Belly up and order, I guess…

‘L’ shaped black slab topped bar with a vertical wood plank & brick pillar piece base that runs its length and into the next room. Normally seating for upwards of 2 dozen on squared stools but a whole lot less right now in this Covid life. A phat piping piece with 10 wood block & logo tap handles sits on the bar up front. Wood beam suspended above with glass ball bulbs wrapped corded dangle at all heights. It’s very goddamn cool. A pair of slat boards on the barback wall list tap selections (beer, style, ABV).

And through to the backish room, with another tap tower along the looooong stretch of the bar there. The barback wall here holds Inlays between brick pillars with mounted lamps on them from which beer medals dangle. Boxed pieces tucked in between with cans, bottles, wine, & random pieces over glassware shelved below, and tap selections on wood slats atop. More of those glass ball bulbs wrapped corded dangle at all heights from wood beam suspended above action tracing above the bar.

Wide slat wood floors, rafter ceilings with ductwork & sunken spots, and walls of brick & painted play. A giant clock, flats in the corners for the looking at, wood piece art, old maps, house beer prints, a ‘42 North’ license plate mash up, et al. A dozen tables throughout the 2 rooms; like 4 here, and the rest back there (me, pointing). Center squares, 2 seaters along the far wall, and a pair in the rear step up, where I suspect music happens from. Canoe suspended over the rear windows offering brew room views.

The stairs down to the bathrooms fronts the brewery proper, and through to a small room with a few long tables, a corner bar, and roll up panel doors to the beer garden; a center fire pit, strung lighting, and scattered Adirondack chairs & barrel combos amidst its gravel outsideiness.

Back upstairs, there’s a bottle/can display in the front corner, merch on the far wall and a to-go goods cooler alongside the entrance to the side room. A giant 6 panel table with coasters under glass pieces there and a few more tables riddled about. Potted plantage, brewing equipment prints, drop spinnys with buttercup lighting & ductwork above. Table shuffleboard on the far wall and a sick retro table hockey game.

And beer, yes. 12 taps, 6 of them IPAs (Borderland, IPA, 6.8%; Day Trekker, Session IPA, 4.9%; East Meets West, IPA, 6.4%; Hoptogrophy #5, NE IPA, 6.5%; Rum BA Fortune Fetcher, Pineapple IPA, 6.3%; White Oak Borderland, IPA, 6.8%) and the other 6 mix & match ale & lager styles (Craftsman, Helles, 4.5%; Illumination, Pilsner, 5.9%; Oatmeal Cookie, Brown Ale, 5.8%; Asylum, Porter, 6.8%; Wallonia, Wit, 5.4%; 5th Anniversary Project Endeavor, BA Baltic Porter, 9.4%), + a single canned seltzer (Source Wild Berry Seltzer, 4%). White Oak Borderland (IPA), Oatmeal Cookie (Brown Ale), & Asylum (Porter) were all win. The beers were solid, yes. And they pulled us samples of Hopography #5, which was very nice, thank you.

Comfortable house, and a lot of goddamn room to move around. There are tunes, I can hear them and everything. An afternoon well spent.

 

 

 

Nice building and use of space in the Village of East Aurora. Long bar with a large amount of tables to sit at. Small area for private parties (have not been to one). Food is mediocre but is snack size which is a nice thing to have at a brewery. Beer selection is about 8 taps which is small as 2 are usually guest taps. Bartenders are helpful and there are usually several working so they can be quick with service. I would recommed the Bar Bill tavern for wings and 42 North for pre or post beers!

The wife and I made a quick stop at this new-ish brewery and taproom in the little cute town of East Aurora. Cool vibes in an all-wood (including beautiful handles) spacious joint with lots of tables, a big L-shaped bar and plenty of windows and light.

10 taps; we enjoyed the Good Enforcer DIPA and the Great Asylum porter. Food smelled nice! Plenty of merchandise too, and some beers to go too. I bought a bottle of the Russian Imperial Stout for fifteen dollars.

Definitely a worthy stop in the "Southtowns" of Buffalo.

Great place with great beer

Immediately fell in love with this place. Great new beers and they are constantly experimenting. The food is also a very good draw for foodies and people who aren't into the beer. I recommend the oatmeal cookie ale as it is simply delicious. The atmosphere is everything this area needed in a craft brewery.
