Super bizarre beer. Austin Bros have developed the most unique NEIPA style of any MI brewer, but I think they need to rethink everything. Maybe it's just something with their canning line (pictures of this beer on draft look very different than what I poured) but I had a similar experience with my last AB NEIPA as well, so I'm starting to have my doubts.
Ok, the review: Pours insanely dark, brown/khaki bordering on green, really not an ideal color, terrible Look score. Smell is somehow- against all odds- pretty good! The Galaxy, Mosaic, Motueka profile shows up, backed by super sweet powdered donut malt flavors- orange, pineapple, peach- very Galaxy. Drinks so strange. The body on this beer is massive, warm, with basically no carbonation and a yeasty/cakey quality, it can be a difficult sip, hence the 3 Feel score. But it also dissolves away to reveal a warm fruit platter that's been sitting out at the barbeque- sure you'll snag a pineapple cube, maybe a peach ring candy from the bowl adjacent, but these are not the ideal conditions for either! So, you get the hop profile on the finish, but it has to wade through a suuuper murky donut, cookie, yeast cake, and I don't think it's worth it. A prolonged palate on a NEIPA can sometimes blow your mind, here it is a bit of a slog.
