Undated can (I'm guessing 1-2 months old) poured into a Teku.
Absolutely gorgeous pale orange-gold coloring, very juicy and creamy looking, with a solid head of soapy, bright-white bubbles on initial pour. Fully opaque and attractively murky, but no turbidity or chunkiness. Head collapse leaves a nice foam cap, with nice splotchy lacing down the glass. Absolutely gorgeous beer -- really everything you (or I) look for in a hazy.
The yeast and hop combination on the nose really reminds me of Aslin beers (which is a big compliment), but with a much milder presentation. Sweet citrus and green onion hit first, with a big dose of pineapple. Weedy and dank, but not in an overpowering way. Tropical fruit medley behind the citrus, with some starchy (but pleasant) greenery. Lemon and lime, a little citrus hard candy, maybe a touch of berry and grape. Everything that's there is really lovely. I just wish it was bigger (except for the weedy onion notes -- that aspect is dialed in perfectly).
Taste follows, with the weediness and green onion stepping up (which I like) to match the pineapple and citrus juice. The initial note is sweet, but then the greenery and bitterness arrive with the second wave, and the beer actually finishes quite dry. Pineapple, grapefruit, orange, green grape, a little pine, and very grassy. There is a strong starchiness that shows up 2/3 of the way through, though it's not the blatant hop burn that haunts so many hazies -- more vegetal and less offensive than that. But it's not additive. Traces of stone fruit intermixed with the (still) ambiguous tropical fruit notes. Once again, what's there is really nice, and I love the way the fruits and dank greens are intertwined. But it's not a taste explosion in any one direction. Don't know if that indicates there's more age and fall-off than I expected, or if that's the intention. It's incredibly drinkable, either way.
Feel is soft and silky (no surprise) with very good coating, but a touch thin given the substance everywhere else. Pithy and green aftertaste.
As a fan of weedy and oniony hazies, this one is right up my alley, and I really like the can I'm trying. But I'll be curious to try a fresher can/pour at some point, as well -- could be phenomenal, or it could be really green.
