When nature decides that a hunderin' down is in order, you go for the necessities- water, food, blankets and a hop bomb of a beer. Civil Society meets such an occasion with a balmy fruit-forward blast from Cashmere, Mosaic, Motueka and Mosaic Cryo to help weathering whatever storm that we're facing.
Glowing pale and translucent with a golden orange gaze, Hurricane Prep swirls with a creamy ivory froth ahead of a perfumy array that spans tropical, melon, citrus, spruce and berry. Nearly appetizing with its scent, the beer soon leads into a creamy, sweet and rounded malt introduction of honeysuckle, cereal and shortcake.
But the story quickly shifts to the hops as the eye of flavor breaches the middle palate. A downpour of tangerine, red grapefruit and mango add a glow of citrus and tropical succulence while a nearly tangy followup of passionfruit, lime and papaya soon follow. With a final shift toward a spicier bitterness, the late taste is framed with herbal lemon tea, fresh grassiness, hemp, sassafras and verbena in a smooth, fruity finish.
Medium full in body, the beer's early creaminess holds on to provide an off-dry refreshment with a smooth balance to offset the spicy hops. A medium length aftertaste of fruit peels, tea and herb give impressions of botanical gin and cannabis in the beer's wake.
