On tap at Drink of Ages in Houston, TX.
A: Pours a nearly opaque and murky dull brown color. A small head forms and not much lace is left behind. This is not a very attractive pour...for what it is worth.
S: Bubblegum with light esters and baked bread in the nose . Almost entirely. Which is not bad, but a little overwhelming. As odd as that sounds, it is not that off putting. Just odd.
T: Like the nose, big bubblegum, phenolic esters up front. Then a baked bread flavor comes through. Which, again is odd, but not entirely out of place. The heavy rye character is very obvious.
M/O: A medium body that feels thicker than it should be. I think that has to do with big rye character. Moderate carbonation. Relatively thick, but smooth at the same time. Saying that, still very enjoyable to drink.
The bubblegum and deep baked bread character is the show. Not nearly as "spicy" as the typical rye beer. While it is enjoyable, the bubblegum/esters, mixed with the baked bread makes for a little bit of a murky character that does not mix particularly well for me. Even so, something I enjoyed. A difficult style to make, and one I like to see. While it might not be the best I have had, especially with the likes of Live Oak, still enjoyable. I will be having more when I see it.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
