Pastry stouts and barrel aged stouts are wonderful. We love them and brew them often. But sometimes it’s nice to take a step back and have a very traditional stout. This is a classic American style stout that has notes of dark chocolate, coffee, vanilla and caramel and it is delicious.

Crowler purchased from Noble Shepherd Craft Brewery in Bloomfield, NY.

This one pours a dark glossy black color, with a small white head, and lots of lacing.

This smells like roasted malt, caramel, chocolate, and breadiness.

This is a pretty much spot on take on a traditional and no-frills stout. There's a light caramelly and fruity sweetness, with a very pleasant clean roast character. There's lots of dark chocolate as well.

This is medium bodied, pretty creamy, and drinks "bigger" than it actually is.

This is an impressive little beer. Noble Shepherd is obviously good at hazy stuff, fruity stuff, and pastry stuff - so it's cool to see them be able to rock something more subtle and understated.
