At my lady Pamela's house; canned and chilled, 473mL in a Teku glass. From the Huron Church Rd. LCBO in nearby Windsor. Lot number A076 420934CD. My 6th beer from the Toronto, Ontario brewery, and 1st for 2026. Ridiculously embraced by Gracie the cat...

473 mL can from the LCBO; coded Sep 4 2025 and served slightly chilled. I found this gem a few weeks ago, and I knew right away it would be perfect for my 4000th review.
Pours a crystal clear golden colour, generating two fingers of soapy, foamy white head that manages to hold itself together for several minutes. In its wake, a delicate doily pattern of lace is imprinted onto the glass, with a frothy collar and filmy cap remaining on the surface. Looks great; too bad most of the people who buy this will drink it directly out of the can. The nose is immediately off-putting: corn sugar, grainy sweetness, booze, wet cardboard and metallicity, with a hint of apple skins. Huh - maybe drinking it from the can is the way to go, after all?
Hmm. Not much right off the hop, but the corn sugar and graininess begin to come through by mid-sip, gaining momentum quickly. Boiled vegetables, woodsy hops and ethanol on the back end, with corn syrup sweetness & cardboard dissipating into a mildly boozy-sweet aftertaste. Medium in body, with middling carbonation that adds some bite to this brew's slick mouthfeel. I'll finish the can - mostly because I'm cheap, but also because it's really not so bad.
Final Grade: 2.77, a C grade. Molson Cold Shots Max 7.1% is not a good beer, but you could make an argument for it being a passable malt liquor. Now, before you dismiss me as some high falutin' beer snob, I assure you that I have downed plenty of standard issue Cold Shots in my day - maybe not so much in recent years, but back in the late aughts? Heck yeah. In other words, I don't consider myself to be 'above' beers like this, but I like to think I can tell the difference between 'good' swill and bad swill. This is actually not bad for what it is: as is the case with the O.G. Cold Shots, the off-flavours that you sometimes find in poorly-brewed high-diesel lagers are not much of a factor - as long as you drink it cold, of course. That being said, I'd still rather be drinking a standard Cold Shot.
In short, you could do worse. The ideal pick for my 4000th review - cheers!
