a classically styled grodziskie, light smoke, bready weirdness, some yeasty funk, super drinkable, well proportioned, and the highlight of my beer drinking last night by a mile. its got nice clarity, a tall and active off white head, and the lightest caramel shade to it, but quite pale. the nose is woody smoke but delicate rather than intense or bitter or acrid, and i believe these are usually made with willow bark, not sure what that adds here, maybe an earthy element to it, some vanilla essence kind of sweetness, and a woody vibe. i always get a new pack of hotdog buns in the aroma and taste of this style for whatever reason, dating back to that monarchy beer, which i think was my first taste of the style, i always get that now in these. some cool yeast to this, a german maltiness but still very light, and the smoke. not overly smoked at all though, it works so well, stays so drinkable, and warms up really well. i think they absolutely nailed this. i know the style is never going to be mainstream, but id love to see more of them out there. hugely stoked on this one, i need to get some more beers from these guys in me, this was only my second! a really brilliant example of a long lost style! named after the great one too!
