Pours murky dark brown that you can only see through at the corners held up to the light. A fair amount of sediment made it into the bottom of the glass from the can. Tight little grey/brown head that settles into a light fuzz.

Nose is immediately dry and ashy. I can find some chocolate by looking, but it's mostly char and ash, dry stout style.

Flavour follows the same lead as the aroma, but offers a little more depth and complexity with a rounder nutty undercurrent that offers the first step in the brown ale direction for my unrefined palate. Some dry bitter bakers chocolate, that strata of nuttiness, the dry ashiness build together to make an enjoyable dry stout profile.

Body is fairly pillowy and has a nice lingering bitterness from the ash and char.

Ultimately this is not a brown ale to me. But I don't care. Whatever it is, it's quite tasty.

Ultra clear, dark brown body; dense, swirling carbonation; thick, off-white head, rich and frothy plus long-lasting; sticky fingers and specks of foam coat the inside of the glass. Bright and robust nose; mild dark malt sweetness with lightly spicy aromatics wafting to the nostrils. Lovely muted dark malt flavor; light suggestion of cocoa powder blended with caramel notes; moderate and balanced sense of bitterness. Warm and soft mouthfeel; medium-bodied with a full and rich character.

This delicious beer is phenomenal for a brown ale. I find it to be richer and fuller to the senses than some porters I've encountered over the years. This particular brown ale does seem like a fine blending of English and American brown ale styles. Another beer to add to my list of beers I would put on regular rotation if only it were distributed to my area.

Intensely dark brown opaque body with a khaki finger's worth of foam, spotted lacing. Sweeter caramel malt with drier brown bread yeast with touches of earth and raisin in the simpler but effective nose. Taste features watery malt tones with the yeast, disappointing. Feel is watery and malty with some yeast on the finish that dries a bit, hops are very subdued

16oz Can from Tavour. Dark, clear brown pour, fizzy beige head settles to flat. Sweet, toasty malty aroma, nutty. Taste follows with a very simple approach, sticking to the basics, toasty, sweet, nutty. Simple, yet excellent brown ale.

awesome art and an awesome can of beer overall, really robust for a brown ale, approaching the porter realm in darkness and body, which i dont at all mind, i think this is very professionally executed and a joy to drink, one of the more flavorful browns ive had in awhile, and its totally no frills which i also dig. deep brown color to this, high shine and with a frothing tan head over an inch tall from the pint can. the nose on this is complex, bran muffin, dark leather, raisin, and dark chocolate, its wintery and sort of cozy, a little bit sweet to me, sort of a long boiled and concentrated malt thing to it, perhaps giving up a little bit of that all day long appeal the lighter brown ales have, but the flavor sure hits. chewed cigar, brown sugar, espresso crema, light pine from some back end hops which breaks up the malt layers a little bit, but a palate coating brew that seems built for the darkest days of winter. i like the smoothness and size of the body, this is bigger and richer and yet doesnt force the abv up there. a hint of light smoke, milk chocolate, and light finishing bitterness from the roast and spicy hops, but not overdone there. very good beer, very complex, even kind of woody, memorable. I need to track down more from these guys...

A pile of dark beige foam on the clear brown brew in the Widmer wheat glass. Lush and sudsy mouthfeel and pleasant malty sweet note to go with the nuts and butter. Some dark coffee and a bitter edge, but malty and rich with roasted grain. This is a more robust kind of Brown Ale that could be mistaken for a Porter. This has greatly improved over the years since I first tried it. It's such a nice change from the juicy murks from Structures. I'd like to see them go through all the German styles and see what they could do. From the 16 oz can purchased at the Community Co-op in Mount Vernon. Not dated.

Poured from 16oz can into a dimpled mug. No date on the can.

Appearance: murky darkish-brown hue with a thick finger of frothy tan foam atop. Looks good!

Smell: a bit of caramel and a bit of nuttiness on top of a mildly chocolatey malt base. Not bad.

Taste: a bit more chocolatey than the aroma; flavor is nicely malty and bitterness is moderate. A perfectly reasonable brown ale.

Mouthfeel: medium body with a really good carbonation and a nice creaminess. I dig it.

Overall: this beer is totally serviceable, and I am glad that someone out there is making and canning a decent brown ale.

16oz can (no date) poured into 14oz teku. Poured a very, very dark, murky, muddy brown color (no light shown through, even with my flashlight set on full blast) color with 3/4 inch of white head that had light-moderate retention and very light lacing.

A light touch of chocolate was on top of the base malt in the nose, with just a hint of light hops in the background.

Very similar on the tongue, with, perhaps, just a hint of a metallic flavor on the very finish.

The body was light-medium, smooth, and had a semi-sweet finish.

Drinkability was fine, i'd probably have another.

Overall, a nice beer. Seems a bit more like a Porter to me, but those lines are kind of blurry. Worth a shot if you see it.
