Poured into a weizen glass. Pours a hazy yellow orange with a fizzy, three finger white head that dissipated to a thin cap with slippery lacing. Aroma of wheat, a touch of lemon and clove. Flavor is wheat with a little graininess, clove and some lemon; flavor tapers off into the finish with residual wheat. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess and sharp carbonation. Optimism has been on my list of local breweries to visit, but didn't get a chance until today with extra urgency because it looks like they are closing down and will be another site for Stoup. It appears to be a popular place, but folks will be happy with Stoup too, I think. Their hefeweizen was a bit fizzy, but hit all the flavor and aroma points I hope for in the style (they call it only a wheat ale, but it's closer to the classic hefe than an American wheat ale IMO. Initial flavor is good, but the flavor depth tapers off a little into the finish, leaving the clove a bit stark, but interestingly leaving a very authentic shredded wheat flavor that I enjoyed quite a bit.
