Ruby Red in Color, with a strong caramel and malt backbone, and slight biscuity/ cracker flavor on the finish. The perfect amount of hoppy bitterness to balance out the maltiness of the beer. Hops: Magnum, Hallertau, Mittelfruh

Pours clear, dark amber/copper (SRM 11-14). No carbonation is visible beneath a brief off-white head. The head dissipates to a patchy veil and a ring, leaving no lacing on a Spaten dimpled mug.
The aroma opens with subtle, yet distinctive, warm, soft pretzel. Toasted malt and caramel (which I like, despite the style guide). There is a faint touch of apple crisp.
The flavor has mild malts and light toasted white bread. Bitterness and sweetness have a neutral balance and both are faint. The finish is mild and lingering.
Medium body and creamy texture with alcohol as advertised. The carbonation is soft.
Aside from some stylistic miss-steps, this is a very enjoyable Marzen. I imagine it would be an excellent companion to Bauernwurst.
