The beer is a clear gold color that has very little bubbly head that dissipates quickly but leaves a foamy ring around the inside of the glass. The beer smells very earthy because of the yeast in addition to a fruity smell. A slight hoppiness is also detectable. The buckwheat adds a uniquely sweet smell but is overshadowed by the yeast and hops. However, the buckwheat does a decent job of balancing out the slight hops. Unlike the smell, the earthy yeast smell dominates the taste and slightly hides the buckwheat taste. The hops have a stronger presence in the taste and mix well with the earthy yeast and buckwheat. The buckwheat makes a slight presence in the taste but the hops and yeast dominate the taste. Rather, the buckwheat adds a sweetness that mixes with the hops and yeast. The buckwheat does not balance the what but prevents it from becoming too dominant. The mouthfeel is smooth and medium bodied. The beer has biting carbonation. Overall, a decent saison.
