Cold weather and chilly New England wind are best paired with a darky, roasty beer. For our latest addition to our dark beer lineup we wanted to try our hand at a lactose addition.
This full bodied milk stout delicately balances roasty flavors from the grain bill with subtle sweetness from the lactose addition. Pom Pom teases with a nose of dark chocolate, lightly roasted coffee, raisinettes, and subtle vanilla beans leading into a balanced palate of chocolate milk, hazelnut, with roasty flavors and moderate sweetness.
MALT: English Pale Malt, C-80, CaraMunich, Flaked Barley, Black Malt, Carafa III, Pale Chocolate, Lactose Sugar
HOPS: Hop bittering extract

Solid dark brown, nearly black pour. Smells tasty, and tastes absolutely delicious - chocolate and vanilla with a touch of hazelnut and hints of coffee. Impressive feel - lightly carbonated and incredibly smooth, full bodied without being too thick or sticky like stout can be.

The beer pours a nice and light brown creamy head that dissipates quickly while the beer itself is a dark chocolate dark brown with a very texture to it. It seems like it has some heft to it unlike others that appear to be a bit watery.
The smell is delicious. It has a mix of hazelnut, chocolate milk, and a soft vanilla upfront. There is a little bit of roast bitterness underneath and comes out in the finish.
The taste is fantastic. It has a solid mix of chocolate milk, subtle hazelnut, and moderate vanilla that mix very well together and it doesn't let up. There is also a slight roast note in the finish.
The feel is very good. It has a heavy body with a soft almost velvety texture to it. It has very little carbonation to it.
Overall, this is a fantastic beer worth getting. It's just great all around.

16 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 12/6/2017. Pours very hazy/cloudy opaque dark brown/black color with a 1 finger dense and rocky khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, molasses, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, cream, toasted biscuit, roasted nuts, and dark bread/crust; with lighter notes of licorice, raisin, prune, cherry, fig, date, smoke, charcoal, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. A bit too fruity/yeasty aromas, but not overwhelming. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malts, lactose, and light-moderate fruity yeast/earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, molasses, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, cream, toasted biscuit, roasted nuts, and dark bread/crust; with lighter notes of licorice, raisin, prune, cherry, fig, date, smoke, charcoal, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Light herbal, grassy, peppery hops; and roast/charred bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, molasses, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, cream, toasted biscuit, roasted nuts, dark bread/crust, light licorice/dark fruit, smoke, char, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts, lactose, and light-moderate fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; with a nice roast/hop bitter/sweet balance; and no cloying, acrid, astringent flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering hop/roast bitterness. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/bready, and lightly slick/sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol for 6.8%. Overall this is a delicious English milk stout. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts, lactose, and light-moderate fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the mildly bitter/drying finish; great soft feel. Very rich and well rounded English malt complexity and lactose flavors; with solid earthy hop presence, and restrained fruity yeast. Not overly sweet/heavy from lingering dryness. A very enjoyable offering, and spot on style example as expected. Might have been better fresh, but held up very well.
