Collaboration with Garage Project
Nestled in a valley just south of New Zealand's Tasman Bay sits Freestyle Hop Farms - a farm that has inspired us with their dedication to direct hop supply and transparent lot selection. We connected with Freestyle through our friends Garage Project and the 2019 Hāpi Festival - you've seen crops of their work on display in past draft-only Permutation beers. Learn more about this partnership on our blog.
Sunrise Valley is a double IPA brewed with the folks from Garage Project, and featuring Freestyle Farms’ Rakau and Nelson Sauvin varietals. The name pays homage to the beautiful little corner of the world that these hops were born in. Pouring a noticeably hazy golden yellow straw, Sunrise Valley lifts mouthwatering, dank aromas of citrus rind and bright tropical fruit. Lively flavors of white grapefruit, lemon peel and orange pith take the lead on the palate alongside complementary notes of ripe pineapple and mango. With a modest biscuit malt backbone and a pleasant floral bitterness, Sunrise Valley has a clean and balanced finish.
MALT: American Two Row, White Wheat, C-15
HOPS: Rakau, Nelson Sauvin
COLLABORATORS: Garage Project, Freestyle Farms

Pours a milky orange with a 1F head and a lot of lacing.
Smells of slightly dank floral and grassy hops with citrus.
Tastes of lightly tart grapefruit, tangy wheat, orange and lemon with a lightly bitter finish.
Medium light body with light prickly carbonation. Smooth, dry mouthfeel.
This is a very drinkable, mild mannered, juicy and nuanced brew. Well done!

another one with garage project and some of the best hops new zealand has so offer, this time nelson and rakau, and its super good, a dangerously easy drinking double, and at absolute peak freshness when i had it, just dripping ripe and juicy, intensely hoppy but not very bitter, this really brings the best of both varietals and overall is just a wonderful beer, modern, pungent, and almost addicting. orange juicy looking, pale orange with some obvious density but still some brightness in the glass under its frothed up inch of white sudsy head, intricate lacing is left in the wake of each sip. pretty interesting nose, tropical from both varietals here, white wine yes, but also peach nectar, white florals, sweet orange, papaya and mango juice, and some amount of hop derived sweetness also apparent, super summery even though there is some grain body at the core of this, off dry, really fresh. more orange in the flavor, major morning vibes, fresh squeezed, bellini, a hint of coconut water, lemongrass, yellow florals, seems almost healthful, ever so slightly green as it warms, some oily hop texture, a little sativa fruitiness, mild grain sweetness underneath all the hops make this kind of long, lemon candy and a bit of peach on the swallow, really flavorful and impressive, distinctive too, a great hop combination and awesome intensity. i havent had anywhere near enough beer from these guys in recent years, but its clear from a couple of these garage project collaborations that they still have quite the handle on the hoppy stuff. head of class level stuff here...

16oz can dated 3/16/19.
Pours cloudy gold with a short-lived head of white. Minimal retention or lacing. Pineapple pith and dank weed in the nose. Medium bodied with a chaulky, tacky mouthfeel. Grapefruit with pineapple on the palate with zero malt and a firm bitterness. Finishes dry with lingering citrus pith.
