Collaboration with Three Chiefs Brewing Co.
Proud to introduce our first collab with Three Chiefs Brewing Co. Meaning "rice" in Chamorro, Hineksa takes inspiration from Three Chiefs' roots in Guam. Rice and palm sugar come together with Citra and Galaxy hops in this recipe to create a lush and tropical DIPA. As we worked with our new friends from Three Chiefs, we learned that Ancient Chamorros used rice in food and drinks for special occasions. Today, Hineksa is a staple of any gathering of friends and families. Just as we have come together with Three Chiefs Brewing Co. to create this beer, we hope you enjoy and share amongst your friends and families.
Pouring a golden yellow straw color with moderate haze, Hineksa lifts a bevy of ripe tropical fruit aromas with highlights of sweet mango, pineapple rinds, and freshly juiced oranges. Following the nose closely, flavors of white peach and pulpy citrus layer on the palate balanced by a gentle pine tip bitterness. Medium bodied, Hineksa has a blissful tropical sweetness accentuated by a silky smooth mouthfeel and mouthwatering finish.
MALT: Pilsner, Flaked Barley, C-15
HOPS: Citra, Galaxy
ADDITIONAL INGREDIENTS: Rice, Palm Sugar

Dated 4/12/19 on the bottom of the can, a month old.
Pours a nearly opaque pale golden yellow with a finger and half of rocky head. Nose starts off with a hefty fresh green herbaceousnss; moving on to notes of candied red grapefruit, unripened pineapple, mango and a deep undyling white bread sweetness. The taste follows the nose with a little bit of vegetal essence and mandarin orange rind. Medium+ sweetness, great carbonation, medium- biterness/drying and a sticky body that's on the lighter end for a 8.2% brew. Except for a little difference in body I wouldn't have known this was made with rice and palm sugar. It's a great brew and great collab with Three Chiefs. I'll have to check out Three Chiefs proper now!

16oz can, Trillium snifter glass. Bright pulpy and hazy golden body, one finger frothy white head, good retention, plenty of lacing. Smell is grapefruit zest and tropical fruit with a bit of a herbal bite. It's classic citra/galaxy combination, with the tropical fruit standing out nicely. Medium sweet sugar and caramel sweetness. Flavour is similar, sweeter than most DIPAs that Trillium does, presumably from the palm sugar addition, but it hasn't dried out at all. It has a nice smooth, mild bitterness from the spicy herbal galaxy bite but is smoothed out by the nice grapefruit and tropical fruit hop aromatics also contributed by galaxy and citra. It works well on its own- if you told me rice was added, I'd never know. It doesn't lighten up the body very much at all- remains medium in substance, very similar to other Trillium hops, smooth mild sugar and tropical fruit hop aromatics all the way through.

Pouring from a 16 oz. can into a Trillium Willi Becher style glass, this beer pours out like straight orange juice. It managed to produce bubbles but never form a crown, which makes it look even more like straight juice.
The nose brings a big punch of fruit. Citra dankness mixing with oranges, peaches, nectarines and tangerines. Has a pronounced sweetness.
The taste comes in with a little bit of a tangy, almost sharp, orange bite. That orange tang definitely carries the mouthfeel. Sharp, ripe pineapple. I’m not sure whether to love it or hate it, it almost feels mixed with actual juice. There is a slight rice graininess; very light. I wish some of that hop bite from the nose carried to the taste more than it does. It also seems more one dimensional than the nose does. Very light carbonation, it’s goes right in and cuts through. Maybe more carbonation would’ve helped it not feel so much like actual juice. It’s got a bitterness to it, but more of an actual sharpness that I’m not really digging.
Overall, I could just do without the sharpness and wish this didn’t feel SO much like actual juice and more like actual beer.
