Like any good set of tools, a clean, crisp, and refreshing Lager is paramount for any New England adventure. While the recipes will change, the focus on incorporating local ingredients and quenching thirst will never waver. Grab your gear, pack an Essential Lager, and get outside.
As we transition into the winter months, the hatchet becomes a key asset to any tool kit for its primary purpose of chopping fuel for the fireplace, the woodstove, and the final few bonfires of the season. Its namesake lager presents a gorgeously brilliant light straw with a fluffy white foam cap. Soft malt-forward aromas of water cracker and warmly toasted biscuit set the tone for highlights of freshly-zested citrus peel and rosewater. Hatchet finishes with a slice of clean bitterness, balanced by soft malt sweetness.
MALT: Valley Pilsner, Weyermann Acidulated Malt
HOPS: YCH American Noble Mosaic, Four Star Farms Crystal

Pours a 1 finger pillowy frothy head with good retention, soapy lacing, semi hazy golden straw color
Nose brings lots of fruity hops, a bit tropical and citrus, papaya, bit of grapefruit, berries and cream, a bit of cereal grainy straw malt
Taste starts more like a lager, cereal grain straw malty up front, then some fruity hops, a bit noble like floral herbal and touch grassy, mild tropical fruits, light bitterness, a touch more grassy hops late, drier finish
Mouth is med to lighter bod, med to a bit higher carb
Overall not bad, decent base lager with some interesting aromatic hops that are tropical on the nose but noble grassy floral herbal on the taste

Appearance: A bubble show builds to a three finger head atop the clear goldenstraw liquid; strong persistence with squiggles of lacing
Smell: Grassy and citrus pith tones waft above the bready aromatics
Taste: Bready malt tones lay the base with grassy elements developing; through the middle, there are hints of lemon and grapefruit pith emerging; the back end is crisp and dry with a lager twang on the finish
Mouthfeel: Light body with moderate to high carbonation
Overall: An interesting combination of old world malts and new world hops; very refreshing with plenty of flavor

I'm generally an IPA guy but . . .my neighbor took a job for the VA in Boston and we're tending her home while she's away and . . .anyway she brought us some beer - GOD BLESS HER! This is the first one we tried and mmm it is VERY smooth and yet . . .complex. Poured a clean crisp straw yellow into my tulip. Light aroma of crisp fruitiness. Flavor is a blend of complex fruitiness. Medium body and creamy. Slight slickness and grassy residue. A very pleasant American lager.

16 oz. can dated 11/11/20
Pours a mostly clear pale straw yellow with a touch of hop haze, and a fairly substantial creamy white foam head with good retention and lacing. Smells crisp, fruity and refreshing, balanced with New World hops and old world style malts, crisp passionfruit, pineapple, blueberry, orange citrus, grapefruit, sweet lemon, rich toasted biscuity bready crackery malts, hint of apple, mild black peppery spice, with woodsy dank floral earthy herbal pine notes. Tastes equally crisp and clean, real refreshing, yet fruity, dank, and hoppy to the core. Big Mosaic hop notes like the aroma, clean notes of passionfruit, pineapple, lemon, orange citrus, grapefruit, blueberry, a hint of apple, rich toasted biscuity bready crackery malts, mild black peppery spice, with woodsy dank floral earthy herbal lightly resinous grassy pine notes. Feels medium plus bodied, creamy, crisp and smooth with moderate carbonation. Overall a really great Noble Mosaic dry-hopped American pale lager.
