The grist for this American Pale Lager features raw heirloom dent corn from our farm in North Stonington, CT, which we milled in-house to a coarse, unsifted grit before combining it with Valley's pilsner malt in the main mash tun.
This bright, straw-colored Pale Lager, aptly named Grainshed, presents a beautiful range of aromatics. An array of malt-forward notes greet the palate upfront, featuring tones of fresh-baked biscuit, water cracker, and lightly toasted corn chips. As the beer opens up, the whole-cone Saaz shines, its beautiful floral-meets-grassy profile adding a nuanced highlight and welcomed soft bitterness. Grainshed is light-bodied, thirst-quenching, and finishes crisp.

Drank from a 1 pint can purchased at Trillium Brewing Company, Boston, MA
03/17/21
Served in a nonic
Slightly hazy, pale straw yellow appearance. A two-finger tall mass of creamy, bright white foam topped the body and slowly dropped to a thin film. Minimal streaky lacing trickled along the glass.
The aroma was fantastic. Super lemony and bright. Really crisp and clean. Quite wheaty too. Cracked wheat perhaps. A touch fruity. Fairly sweet overall for the style. Hint of spiciness. This was somewhat reminiscent of an American pale wheat ale. A dry lager yeast quality was also detectable.
The flavor profile was solid but noticeably different from the nose. Crisp and bright up front. Big grainy malt presence. Spicy Saaz hop notes appeared as the beer moved along the palate. Somewhat grassy. Lemony in the center. The hoppiness crescendoed on the back end and in the finish. Fair amount of lingering bitterness after the swallow.
Solid mouthfeel. Medium bodied for the style. A super fine, moderate effervescence made the beer fluff up really nicely as it moved along the palate. The resulting liquid was soft and supple.
Trillium’s lager program has historically been one of the least exciting aspects of their brewery, but this collaboration with Kent Falls hopefully is a signal of better things to come. Grainshed is a perfect summertime crusher.

Picked-up a four-pack of cans at Trillium in Canton today for about fifteen dollars. Canned on date of 3/17. Not my favorite style, but very-well done, nice lower ABV brew, would definitely get again.

16 oz can dated 03/17/21
Pours a mostly clear yellow gold color with streaming bubbles and a creamy white foam head that lasts with decent retention and lacing. Smells a bit fruity and estery like pears and apple skin, nice bready crackery doughy biscuity malt aromas, touch of corn grain, hint of earthy grassy hops with mild spice and floral qualities, pretty clean and nice. Tastes crisp and clean, grainy corn notes, biscuity bready lightly toasted crackery malts, light hint of apple and pear, lemony citrus, grassy floral earthy noble hops, mild spice, some dry bitterness comes in at the end, pretty flavorful and clean. Feels lighter medium bodied, creamy and smooth with moderate carbonation. Overall a nice American pale lager.

Dough, biscuit, grain and grass. Midway between cloudy and clear. More floral than sweet. Damn delicious.
Trillium has steadily been upping their lager game with the exceptional Just Add Noodles and their series of pale lagers with varying hops. This eschews any née age hops and hits the straight malt track.
I’ll drink this all day.
