(10 oz wine glass draft serving at the Fort Point location last week... review rearranged from notes taken then, with added thoughts in parentheses)
Nitro pour; chestnut hue... caramel nose, hint of balsamic... (palate) nutty caramel, mild toffee... remarkably dry floor... (mouthfeel) slight swell, spongy up front... booze attenuates? (thinning out the body?), mellow heat... toasty, 'malted' aftertaste; slight burnt wood accent... smoother and boozier as it goes; mild sting builds (throughout the palate)... hint(s) of dark fruit, tannic bite late
what more I can recall: my bartender, Dan, suggested this, saying it had been sitting in the tank for 'two years'... I've had a nitro barleywine before, this wasn't too shabby, but not moreish enough to want again... can't help but feel the nitro tamed this down too much or perhaps was employed to cover subtle flaws?... why else would they serve this in such a stealthfully sedating manner?... kind of a liquid dessert, but not over the top (2131)
